Human rights day marked by posters highlighting abuses in IIOJK
Srinagar: As the world observes Human Rights Day, posters across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have brought attention to the grave human rights violations perpetrated by Indian forces in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the posters, displayed by pro-freedom groups including the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Jammu Kashmir Peoples Resistance Party, Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement, Jammu Kashmir Students and Youth Forum, and Jammu Kashmir Democratic Movement, spotlight the ongoing repression in the territory.
The posters prominently feature images of detained APHC leaders such as Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, and Aasiya Andrabi, underscoring the denial of fundamental rights, particularly the right to self-determination, in IIOJK.
Blaming Indian troops for extrajudicial killings, fake encounters, and withholding burials of victims, the posters also condemned the arbitrary detention of human rights activists. The message called for urgent international intervention to end Indian state terrorism and resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Human Rights Day, celebrated annually on December 10, commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.
The posters serve as a stark reminder of the unfulfilled rights of the Kashmiri people.
