Global media outlets expose India’s diplomatic weaknesses, symbolic nature of QUAD

New Delhi, May 24 (KMS): A report based on findings of multiple global media outlets including BCC has highlighted growing strain in US–India relations and exposed the limited effectiveness of platforms like Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) amid New Delhi’s diplomatic weaknesses and regional complexities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the report noted that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to India comes at a time when bilateral relations have remained strained over the past year.

The tensions include US sanctions on Indian oil imports from Russia and concerns over US–Pakistan relations. The report added that a reduced US focus on countering China has also increased strategic concerns in New Delhi. The visit is being seen as a “repair effort” to stabilize US–India relations and restore trust. While the QUAD meeting with Japan and Australia is considered symbolically important for regional cooperation, analysts argue that disputes over earlier US–Pakistan diplomatic engagements and ceasefire credit have caused political unease in India.

Experts cited in the report said India’s strategic and diplomatic weaknesses may affect the effectiveness of platforms like QUAD. Some analysts argue that India cannot effectively counter China’s influence, and that QUAD is often seen as a limited or underperforming forum, especially as China’s influence grows.

The report further stated that India’s rigid diplomatic approach has left SAARC inactive and weakened due to persistent political tensions among member states. Recent BRICS meetings in India also saw disagreements among member countries and diverging national interests that hinder collective policymaking.

Quadrilateral Security Dialogue is an informal strategic forum between the US, India, Japan, and Australia.
