Fear of violence after election: Deployment of 400 companies of paramilitary extended in West Bengal

Kolkata: In view of the fear of violence and riots after the Lok Sabha elections in India, the Election Commission of India has decided to keep 400 companies of the paramilitary Central Armed Police Force in the state of West Bengal continuously deployed in the state till June 19.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on Tuesday.

Initially, the Election Commission had decided to deploy Indian paramilitary forces in the state two days after the announcement of the results on June 4. However, in view of the fear of large-scale violence and riots after the elections, the deployment of CAPF in the state was postponed to June 19.

These companies of paramilitary force include 115 companies of Central Reserve Police, 118 companies of Border Security Force, 71 companies of Central Industrial Security Force, 60 companies of Sashastra Seema Bull and 36 companies of Indian-Tibetan Border Police Force.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has imposed Section 144 in 17 constituencies of Sandishakhli in the state following large-scale incidents of post-poll violence.
