India’s ex-BrahMos engineer gets life imprisonment for spying
Nagpur: An Indian court has sentenced Nishant Agarwal, a former engineer of Brahmos Aerospace Private Limited, to life imprisonment for violating the Official Secrets Act.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Nishant Agarwal will also serve 14 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and pay a fine of Rs 3,000.
He was arrested in 2018 on charges of spying and passing secret information to Pakistan.
Additional Sessions Court Judge MV Deshpande booked Nishant Agarwal under Section 66 (f) of the IT Act and various provisions of the Official Secrets Act.
Agarwal was associated with the technical research section of the Missile Center of BrahMos Aerospace Company in Nagpur. He was arrested by the military intelligence and counter-terrorism squads of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra in 2018.
The company is a joint venture between India’s Defence Research and Development Organization and Russia’s Military Industrial Consortium. It is working on a supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from land, air, sea and underwater.
