Protest erupts after college student beaten to death in Patna
Bihar: An incident of campus violence has sent shockwaves through Patna, as a 22-year-old student who was on his way to take an exam, was brutally beaten to death by a group of masked assailants armed with sticks and bricks.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the deceased has been identified as Harsh Raj, a third-year Vocational English student at Patna’s BN College.
According to Bharat Soni, City SP (East), Harsh Raj was attacked by 10-15 masked men when he went to Sultanganj Law College on Monday to appear for an exam. After the vicious assault, Raj’s friends rushed him to the PMCH emergency ward, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police have arrested Chandan Kumar, a student from Patna college, in connection with the murder. Kumar reportedly confessed that the attack was a fallout of a clash between two groups of Patna University students during a college event in August last year.
Harsh’s father, Ajit Kumar, hinted at a possible motive behind the attack, stating that his son had been preparing for the upcoming Patna University Students’ Union polls and was tense about it. He also mentioned a scuffle that had occurred during a college event in August last year, which may have been the trigger for the incident.
The brutal murder has sparked outrage and protests from various quarters, with demands for swift justice and an end to campus violence.
