Muzaffarabad: Speakers at a seminar in Muzaffarabad highlighted the plight of Kashmiri political prisoners and their struggles for justice.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the seminar titled ‘Unheard Voices: Highlighting the Plight of Kashmiri Prisoners’ was organized by the Department of International Relations, Azad Jammu and Kashmir University at King Abdullah Campus, Muzaffarabad.

The conference featured keynote addresses, panel discussions and personal accounts from Kashmiri prisoners’ families. Organizers hoped to raise empathy and support for those affected and develop strategies for advocacy.

While voicing their grave concern over the continual illegal detention of Kashmiri prisoners. speakers at a seminar said that the life of thousands of detainees lodged in different jails in and outside Kashmir were getting worse with every passing day.

The speakers continued that thousands of Kashmiris who were arrested before and after 5th August 2019 have been languishing in India’s notorious jails like Tihar, which has become a death trap for Kashmiris.

The speakers appealed to the UN Secretary-General to take swift and decisive action by demanding the Indian government to stop using its judiciary as a weapon to punish Kashmiri leaders who have been waging a peaceful struggle to achieve the fundamental rights guaranteed to Kashmiris by the United Nations.

Among the attendees were Convenor All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC-AJK) Azad Kashmir chapter Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Hurriyet leader Shamim Shawl, former AJK minister Farzana Yaqoob, Muslim Conference leader Usman Attique, President Kashmir Youth Alliance Mujahid Geelani, Senior analysts and journalists; Salman Javed and Saeed-us-Zaman Sadiquie, faculty members of AJK university Madiha Shakil, Dr Samina, and Dr. Mehmood.
