Mirwaiz voices concern over restrictions on religious duties
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has expressed his deep concern over the ongoing uncertainty regarding his ability to carry out his responsibilities as the Mirwaiz of Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz was addressing Juma congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar today, after being prevented from fulfilling his duties for four consecutive weeks due to house arrest imposed by the occupation authorities.
Mirwaiz highlighted the distress caused by the repeated uncertainty surrounding his Friday prayers. He pointed out that every week, both he and the community are left wondering if he will be allowed to address the congregation.
Emphasizing the broader significance of his role, Mirwaiz stated that Friday prayers are not only a religious duty but also an opportunity to address critical issues impacting the society, from political to social and economic concerns.
Addressing the occupation authorities, the Mirwaiz asserted, “Silencing voices or confining me at home will not resolve the challenges we face. True progress comes through dialogue and an openness to diverse views”.
Mirwaiz concluded with a call for the cessation of restrictions, expressing hope that he would be allowed to fulfill his responsibilities uninterrupted.
