Daily wagers protest in Srinagar, Kupwara residents decry long power cuts

Srinagar: A large number of daily wagers staged a protest in Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, demanding regularisation of their services and the implementation of the Minimum Wages Act.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the protestors assembled at Lal Chowk and attempted to march forward, but police foiled the march.

The Chairman of Kashmir Public Health Engineering (PHE) department Joint Employees Association, Sajjad Ahmad Parray, who led the protest, said all governments have been adding to worsen their plight. He warned of intensified demonstrations if their demands were not met.

Chaotic scenes were witnessed as some daily wagers attempted to breach the office gate, expressing frustration over their financial struggles due to inflation and lack of job security.

Meanwhile, in Kupwara, residents voiced outrage over long power cuts during the holy month of Ramadan. Complaints poured in from various areas, including Kupwara Main Town, Lolab, Trehgam, Kralpora, and Handwara, where people have been facing frequent and prolonged outages. Locals criticized the administration for failing to provide electricity even during crucial Suhoor and Iftar times.
