Congress highlights IIOJK’s job crisis amid BJP’s false claims

Jammu: The Congress party has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is misleading the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) about job opportunities, asserting that the territory is currently experiencing its highest unemployment rate in 45 years.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to reporters in in Jammu, Dolly Sharma, National Media Coordinator for the All India Congress Committee (AICC), asserted that IIOJK is facing a severe employment crisis, with approximately 2.5 million young people seeking jobs.

“While the BJP continues to make false claims about job creation, the stark reality is that Jammu and Kashmir is grappling with the highest unemployment rate it has seen in the last 45 years, and the second highest unemployment rate in India under the current BJP regime,” Sharma said.

She highlighted that since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, 65 percent of government positions remain unfilled across various departments, amidst reports of recruitment scams. Sharma also criticized the unfulfilled promises made by the IIOJK administration following the special status revocation.

“Over 60,000 daily wage workers are still earning a meager Rs. 300 per day after working for over 15 years, despite assurances of regularization,” Sharma added.

Onika Mehrotra, AICC Media Coordinator for Jammu, also condemned the BJP’s post-Article 370 promises. “The BJP had promised job opportunities and industrial growth following the abrogation of Article 370, but these promises have failed to materialize. Moreover, the issuance of 12,000 domicile certificates to non-natives has further exacerbated the job crisis for local youth,” Mehrotra said.
