Jailed Engineer Rashid seeks permission to attend parliament

New Delhi: Jailed MP from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Engineer Rashid asserting that he is not a security threat sought custody parole to attend the upcoming Indian Parliament session.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Rashid’s counsel made the submission before Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh, who reserved the verdict for March 7 after hearing arguments on the plea.

The plea for interim bail or custody parole was filed by advocate Vikhyat Oberoi on February 27, following which the court sought a response from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on March 3.

Oberoi argued that Rashid, as a sitting parliamentarian, needed custody parole to fulfill his public duty by attending the session. Custody parole allows a prisoner to be escorted by armed police personnel to a designated location.

However, the NIA counsel opposed the plea, asserting that being a parliamentarian does not exempt an individual from the effects of detention.
