Restrictions intensified ahead of Modi’s visit to IIOJK
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, restrictions have been tightened under the pretext of security ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Modi is scheduled to visit Kashmir on Monday to inaugurate the Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg area of Ganderbal, triggering a significant ramp-up in occupation forces’ presence.
The tightened restrictions include heavy deployments of Indian army, paramilitary forces and police across the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Sonamarg area. Additional checkpoints have been established for frisking and monitoring, alongside increased surveillance, area domination exercises, thorough searches, and round-the-clock patrols. The Special Protection Group (SPG) has taken charge of Modi’s innermost security layer.
“Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been implemented and will remain in effect until January 13. These include the deployment of additional forces, installation of CCTV surveillance, establishment of additional checkpoints and frisking points,” an Indian official said.
It is important to note that the arrival of high-ranking Indian political and military figures consistently exacerbate the suffering of the local population in IIOJK. These so-called security measures, enforced during such visits, further curtail the basic freedoms of the already oppressed population, deepening their daily struggles under the shadow of occupation.
