According to Kashmir Media Service, the seminar, titled ‘Kashmir Solidarity Program: Global Silence and Pakistan’s Responsibility,’ was organized by the Dawah Centre for Women, International Islamic University Islamabad. The event attracted a diverse audience, including students, faculty members, and researchers, who engaged in discussions on the urgent need for global intervention in the Kashmir crisis.
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, President of IIUI; Dr. Faryal Umbreen, Focal Person IIUI; Hurriyat leaders Shameen Shawl and Zahid Safi; Prof. Dr. Nazir Hussain, Member of the Board of Directors RCSS, Colombo; Prof. Dr. Amna Mahmood; Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed; Mohydin Ahmed Wani, Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training; and Prof. Dr. Muhtar Ahmed, Chairman of HEC and Rector IIUI, were among the key speakers at the event.
The speakers called for increased diplomatic efforts, particularly now that Pakistan is serving a two-year term as a non-permanent member of the UNSC. They emphasized that Pakistan can use its position to apply maximum pressure on India to halt human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The speakers paid rich tribute to the brave freedom fighters of Kashmir and highlighted the role of Kashmiri women in the resistance movement. Their resilience and sacrifices were noted as exemplary contributions to the ongoing struggle. They further paid tribute to the courageous people of IIOJK, acknowledging their steadfast determination despite facing prolonged lockdowns, curfews, and communication blackouts since August 2019. The speakers reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm stance on Kashmir, asserting that the country will not compromise on its principled position regarding the issue.
The speakers also criticized global double standards and the apathy shown toward the Kashmir issue. They condemned India’s sponsorship of state terrorism, not only in Kashmir but across multiple regions worldwide. They called for raising this matter on international platforms such as the United Nations and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Additionally, they urged the youth to use social media as a tool to raise awareness and advocate for the Kashmiri cause.
The seminar concluded with a call for concerted efforts by the academic community, policymakers, and international organizations to ensure that the voices of Kashmiris are heard, and that meaningful steps are taken toward resolving the long-standing dispute.
