Mirwaiz, Agha Hassan condemn BJP leaders outrageous remarks against July 13 martyrs

Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and head of the Awami Majlis-e-Amal, strongly condemned the outrageous remarks made by BJP leader Sunil Sharma against the martyrs of July 13, 1931, during a speech in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) assembly.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed his condemnation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Strongly condemn the outrageous remarks by a BJP member in the Assembly with regard to the martyrs of 13th July, 1931, who were killed in cold blood for standing up for the rights and dignity of the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

He added that the 1931 martyrs are revered by everyone in IIOJK, and any attempt to malign them will be strongly resisted.

It is important to note that on July 13, 1931, more than 20 unarmed protesters were martyred by the soldiers of the Dogra army during an uprising against Maharaja Hari Singh.

Meanwhile, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and President of the Anjuman Shari Shian also strongly condemned the language used by the BJP leader about 13 July Martyrs.

In a press statement Agha Hassan said “July 13 martyrs stands as a testament to Kashmir’s enduring struggle for civil and political rights. But the BJP, in its bid to rewrite political history of Kashmir, has been systematically erasing such pivotal moments, distorting memory to serve its own Hindutva agenda.”
